Description

One of the all-time greats of thoroughbred racing, Nijinsky won the Triple Crown - the English 2000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby, and the St Leger - in 1970, the last horse to do so. Owned by Charles W. Engelhard and trained at Ballydoyle in County Tipperary by the legendary Vincent O'Brien, Nijinsky's other wins included the Dewhurst Stakes, the Irish Derby, and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. He was bred by Windfields Farm in Canada and was by the epoch-defining sire Northern Dancer out of Flaming Page by Bull Page. Standing throughout his stud career at Claiborne Farm, Kentucky, he became a champion sire in the USA and Europe. He is ridden here by the incomparable Lester Piggott.
