An expensive yearling at 300,000 guineas, Poet's Word nonetheless resembled many other racehorses trained by the legendary Sir Michael Stoute at Newmarket in getting better and better with age. His success on the track culminated at the age of five with victories in the Prince of Wales's Stakes and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, both Group 1 races. Very handsome, and shown in this head study looking proud and alert, he was bred by Woodcote Stud, owned by Saeed Suhail, and now stands at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud.
